Apple. Inc launched its new “world phone” on Oct. 4 and has received more than a million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S.
It crossed 1 million units in the first 24 hours of pre-order sales that started on Oct 7. The device will be available at all 245 Apple retail stores in the U.S., beginning at 8 a.m., local time, on Friday, Oct 14. The phone will also be available online, at authorized re-sellers and carriers (AT&T, Verizon and Sprint Nextel).
Apple released a statement on Monday, confirming that “the pre-orders of iPhone 4S have topped one million.” The previous record of 600,000 units in a day was set by the iPhone 4, which was launched in June last year.
The company has received an overwhelming response, from all around the world, for what they call the “most amazing phone.”
“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice-President of product marketing worldwide.
“The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do,” he added.
Though the 4S looks identical, both in terms of design and appearance to its predecessor, the iPhone 4, Apple insists that “inside, it’s all-new,” meaning that the 4S has significant hardware upgrades.
In addition to the all-new iOS 5, the 4S has also been equipped with an A5 chip, a fully-voiced assistant called Siri and an 8 megapixel camera, along with both CDMA and GSM capabilities.
The iPhone 4S will roll out, worldwide, in more than 22 countries, including the U.S., Australia, Japan, Canada, France, Germany and the UK, by the end of the month, with a new 2-year contract priced at $199, $299 and $399 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models of the phone, respectively.
