In the latest response to drought conditions in the southern parish of St. Elizabeth, Minister of Local Government, Noel Arscott says Government has allocated J$5 million to boost the trucking of water to drought stricken areas of the parish.
The announcement came Monday during a tour of areas in St. Elizabeth which have been ravaged by drought and fire. Arscott says the funding is now available for the parish council to begin the trucking of water.
The Local Government Minister said the Ministry is looking at other long term measures to assist residents who have been spending millions on water for their farms and also for domestic use.
He said a high level team will continue to monitor the situation and make timely reports to the Ministries of Local Government and Agriculture.
