Jamaica Not Yet Affected by Massive Toyota Recall

There’s no word yet on whether the Jamaican market will be affected by Toyota’s voluntary recall of more than 7 million vehicles worldwide.

The Japanese car maker is recalling its Yaris, Corolla and Camry models across Europe, the United States and China because of faulty window switches.

However, the President of the Jamaica Used Car Dealers Association, Lynvalle Hamilton said he is still awaiting word from Japan.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Car Max Jamaica Limited, Ian Lyn, said about 85 per cent of Toyota vehicles imported from Japan are the 2007 and 2008 models.

He said Toyota’s recall is likely to affect higher end cars that are 2012 models.

Toyota Jamaica said until there is communication from Japan, it will not be able to ascertain if their new vehicles are affected.
