LIME Call Tax Takes Effect Today

Starting today, customers of telecommunications company LIME will begin paying the special consumption tax on telephone calls.

A tax of five cents per minute is applied to calls made from a fixed line to another fixed line.

A tax of 40 cents per minute is charged on domestic and international mobile calls originating in Jamaica.

LIME said it has been absorbing the tax since it was introduced last June but it is no longer in a position to do so.

LIME said to offer some reprieve it will be allotting an additional 200 free minutes to customers on its WorldPak Postpaid Plans.
