Lower Prices For Smartphones With The Removal of CET Come July 1

Consumers are likely to benefit from lower prices for smart phones, following the Government’s decision to remove the Common External Tariff (CET) on the item.


The permission to remove the CET was granted, following a successful appeal to Caricom’s Council for Trade and Economic Development.

The Finance Minister, Dr Peter Phillips, said that the 20% Common External Tariff (CET) now payable on imported smartphones is to be removed as of July 1.

“We took this decision in light of the increasing use of smart phones to enhance business communications.
