Third Suspect in Mario Deane Beating Charged

A third suspect has been charged with the murder of Mario Deane.


The accused, Damion Cargill, was charged Friday afternoon. Mr. Cargill, who is said to be hearing impaired, is accused of joining other prisoners to beat Mr. Deane, leading to his death.

Two other prisoners, 35 year old Marvin Orr and 25-year-old Adrian Morgan were charged last week. Mr. Orr was remanded when he appeared in court on Wednesday, while Mr. Morgan, who is said to be mentally ill, is now receiving psychiatric treatment in Kingston.

Mr. Deane died in hospital last week after being beaten at the Barnett Street Police Lock-Up. Mr. Deane. was taken into custody last week after he was held with a ganja spliff.
