Tropical Storm Bertha Expected to Reach The Northeastern Caribbean

Tropical Storm Bertha is expected to reach the northeastern Caribbean today as warnings remain in effect for Puerto Rico and nearby islands.

On the forecast track, Bertha is expected to move away from Martinique into the northeastern Caribbean Sea during the next several hours, passing near Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands today.

It should then move near or over the eastern Dominican Republic tonight, and approach the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos islands tomorrow.

Maximum sustained winds are near 85 kilometres per hour with higher gusts.

Bertha remains in an environment that is not favourable for strengthening and little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical Storm Bertha is not a threat to Jamaica at this time.
