US$1m in Coffee Lost in St. Andrew Bush Fire

It is estimated that the 40 coffee farmers who were affected by last month’s bush fire in rural St. Andrew have suffered revenue losses of over US$1 million. (JM$112,297,750.13)


The estimation comes from President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) Senator Norman Grant who says based on assessment, close to 200 acres of coffee crop was destroyed from Bull Bay to Mavis Bank.

Grant who is also Managing Director of the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory says farmers will be assisted.

The fire which burned for several days and spread for miles affected farms in communities such as Bloxburgh, West Failure and Tower Hill.
